Listed Building Consent has recently been granted in respect of extension and alterations to a charming Grade II Listed house in rural Kent.
Using the attic space, the owner will gain three new rooms; a bedroom, a bathroom and a study. Access to the new rooms will be from a new bespoke oak staircase, which has been specifically designed in a location to cause minimum disruption and to avoid existing historic timbers within the attic space. A benefit of these alterations is that it will reveal a number of the normally unseen roof timbers, whose exposure will form a strong feature of the new spaces.
As part of the alterations, the house will be re-roofed using many original and some reclaimed roof tiles. French windows are to be introduced to the living room, to replace an unattractive modern window, which will afford the house a much better connection to its attractive garden. |
