Residents, staff and visitors of the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability were honoured to receive a visit from HRH The Earl of Wessex on Monday 26th April, for the official opening of the new wing of Haberdashers House.
Haberdashers House is an extension of the RHN's Transitional Rehabilitation Service (TRS). The TRS, the first of its kind in the UK, enables brain injured people with differing functional, communication and cognitive abilities to prepare for independent living.
The new wing comprises two new self-contained studio apartments. Both of the apartments open onto a patio garden and both enjoy access to a shared, multi-purpose room which can be used as a living room or guest bedroom. The rooms have been designed with the emphasis on being homely, spacious and welcoming as opposed to being institutional. They offer the resident an environment similar to that of an apartment which they might encounter in the wider community, whilst providing a safe environment to explore new skills in their recovery.
