Cowan Architects' first Code 5 house has just received accreditation following successful completion of the mandatory pressure test.
Constructed for Town and Country Housing the project was conceived to trial technologies and constructions to enable their housing association stock to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5. As a result the final choice of technologies was influenced by ease of maintenance as well as costs. Whilst the unit cost for the single test bed house is high, the significant savings are anticipated on schemes of 6 units or more.
The house has been equipped with monitoring equipment to enable the functionality of the various systems to be both analyzed by the designers and appreciated by the tenants.
