Studio Barn at Nyetimber is Complete

Cowan Architects have recently overseen the contract to convert one of Nyetimber's listed barns into offices. The scheme involved the creation of a 'floating' mezzanine floor within the existing structure that is fully glazed at it's perimeter and is self supporting to maintain views of the barn timbers, whilst not overloading the existing structure.

The barn is built in typical Sussex aisled form with the east end gable and plinth walls constructed from coldwalham sandstone with galleting. The plinth supports an exposed oak frame with plastered infill panels. Cowan Architects worked with the County Conservation Architect to produce a scheme that safeguards the barn for the future whilst readdressing some of the previous unauthorised modifications undertaken under former ownership.
